Waiting on Wednesday (31)

Hi, darlings! Welcome to another Waiting on Wednesday over here at Sparkles and Lightning, all thanks to the lovely Jill over at Breaking the Spine! It's a super fun meme that I absolutely love.

I'm very excited about my pick this week and cannot wait to share it with you!

Stalked by Death (Touch of Death, #2)
Kelly Hashway
Release Date: July 23, 2013
Jodi knows that any slip-ups made by the Ophi--a special group of necromancers born under the 13th sign of the zodiac--will fall on her shoulders... and that Hades is just waiting for them to screw up so he can wipe out the Ophi line.
Unfortunately, Jodi has only convinced one Ophi to join her school: A hot guy named Chase who jeopardizes her relationship with Alex. Jodi loves Alex, but Chase can enhance her powers with just a touch—making her stronger than any Ophi has ever been.
Her mixed emotions send her powers surging out of control, and the dead start rising without her conscious summoning—exactly what Hades doesn't want! If she chooses Alex over Chase, she may lose the battle to Hades, leading the Ophi race to extinction. If she chooses Chase, she might be able to stop Hades for good… but lose everything else.
Jodi needs to figure things out fast--because death is stalking her at every turn.
Confession: these links are actually for Touch of Death, since Stalked by Death is apparently not available for preorder anywhere yet.

So, I absolutely loved TOUCH OF DEATH. Like, absolutely LOVED it. It was seriously easily one of my favorite reads of 2012.

Jodi is an awesome heroine, and Alex is a wonderfully hot and fantastic love interest. It's interesting that there's going to be a love triangle in this one. I certainly don't like the idea so far but we'll just have to see how it plays out!

It sounds wonderful. Not everything is going to be easy! There are some definite struggles ahead. But seriously, if anyone can do it, Jodi can. She is awesome like that.

And there is, of course, cover love. It matches the first one beautifully, and yet it also very different. I adore her expression and the colors are gorgeous.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?
Link me up! :)

Before I say good night...

...I have to show you this blog I got from The lost seafarer. Such a wonderful blog and it shows us that just because we are getting older we still can shine, wear cool clothes and be HAPPY;=)

Sleep really well now and believe that we can do just anything if we just believe it!

Leopard

Here´s my outfit for today.
I love leopard and will be one of those old ladies wearing leopard every day;=) But this blue leopard blouse is really modern and to make it a bit more "fun" I did a knot in the front instead of just having it hang down straight.

Same top as yesterday underneath and same leggings in velvet

A leather hair band keeps my hair in place;=)
My old and favourite boots as usual on;=)

Packing up...

...the winter clothes today. In need of warmer sweaters since the temperature is dropping and every season i store summer versus winter clothes in our storage and then I open them up when its time;=) Good way of not having to buy so much clothes and its also fun to reinvent clothes I had forgotten I own.

I also have a couple of times per year when I  go through my closet and sort things out that I for different reasons, no longer are using. The nicer and a bit more pricy clothes are sold through a luxury second hand store here in my city and the rest is given away to my friends and family or if no one wants it, given to charity.

When it comes to my children's clothes I store them and keep them for coming children, my own or someone else's;=)

Do you store your summer/winter clothes like this and what do you do with your used clothes? Do you buy a lot of second hand clothes or only new clothes?

When me and mum was in Copenhagen last week I bought clothes for Nemo from a luxury second hand store and when Seth was younger I always bought clothes from Ebay. Kids clothes, especially baby clothes, are normally just used a couple of times so therefore a good bargain=)

Every Day: GIVEAWAY

So, while I received a copy of EVERY DAY from the publisher a long time ago, I was also lucky enough to get chosen as an Ambuzzador for Random Buzzers. My chosen book was (is) EVERY DAY, and so I received two copies in the mail. One of the copies is for me to give away to you!

In case you've forgotten, I absolutely loved EVERY DAY, and you can read my glowing review here. That book deserved every single one of its five shining stars. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Well, it's a fairly simple giveaway. It's basically like my other giveaways. I've taken to using rafflecopter lately with the exception of Magic Mondays, which I'm sure you've all noticed. All you have to do is read my Giveaways page before entering to keep me happy.

The Hunt: REVIEW

The Hunt (The Hunt, #1)
Andrew Fukuda
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: May 8, 2012
Source: Publisher
Goodreads | Purchase
Don’t Sweat. Don’t Laugh. Don’t draw attention to yourself. And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules. Keep the truth a secret. It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.
When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him. He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?
CATCHALL
So, Andrew's first book, which is much lesser known than this one, is called Crossing. I first read Crossing a few years back and I literally fell head over heels in love with it. It broke my heart. It made me feel wild and crazy emotions. It made me cry my eyes out. And I knew then that if an author could make me feel like that, I would follow him wherever he would take me. And though I have taken forever to review this on account of being somewhat lazy, this book absolutely did not disappoint. I understand that it isn't for everyone, but that absolutely did not keep me from loving it.

THE HERO
GENE
Our hero is Gene, a human in a world of vampires. He is different from most people in the fact that he wants to stay human. I know that that's one of the main places where opinion splits for this book, but I really admire him for that. He doesn't abandon his ideals, and he wants to stay true to who he is and not give into the monstrosity. I also think that Gene's methods of survival weren't always perfect, but he deserves credit for going through it all by himself. I loved Gene's courage, and I didn't find hid choices cowardly. I also think that he had wonderful character growth, and I was pleased to see that.

THE LOVE INTEREST
ASHLEY JUNE
Ashley June is our love little love interest. At first, I had a really difficult time relating to her. She was almost boring, and didn't seem to have much substance. But as time went on I found myself connecting to her more and more. She didn't choose her place in the world, and in general she does try to make the best of it. She could be whiny, but she could also be strong. She doesn't let people tell her what to do, but she isn't a brat. She certainly isn't perfect, but she has a fiery nature and a good head on her shoulders.

THE PLOT
By some twisted mistake, Gene manages to find himself entangled in the hunt, in which vampires track and kill humans for blood sport. But not as a human. Instead, he's on the side of the vampires. Determined to keep his secret and remain human, as well as survival, are Gene's primary goals. He is determined to hold on to his humanity, and so he does his best to blend in with the vampires without becoming one of them.

I thought that is was genius, honestly. In our society vampires are often an overused ideal. In this book, they're not. Sure, there are books that are similar, namely The Immortal Rules, and I'm sure there are others. Even so, there are several defining factors that make it completely unique.

I found the hunt itself to be an absolutely fascinating and horrific concept. It's absolutely disgusting, and it isn't glorified or justified at all. It's simply something awful that is, but nothing that anyone can do anything about. It was really interesting to see the dynamics of exactly how it played out, and to hear Gene's views on it.

I was pleased and surprised by the amount of action. For some reason, I truly was not expecting so much. But I loved action, and I especially love blood (at least when it comes to books) so I was thrilled by this. I loved the way it kept me tense, constantly at odds and never sure what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the tension and suspense, which added another layer to the story and more excitement for me.

Overall, I totally loved this and absolutely enjoyed it. There are definitely mixed opinions on this, but in mine this was truly fantastic.

THE ROMANCE
Romance. Gene and Ashley June definitely have chemistry, but it takes a while for that to become clear. At first, they have a natural mistrust and antagonism, or so it appeared to me, and understandably. But as the time goes on, they find themselves somehow drawn to one another. They can't help the attraction they feel. And as they slowly begin to acknowledge this, the connection between them starts to come out. Overall I feel like there wasn't too much romance here, but I am actually truly looking forward to its continuation.

THE WRITING
I have loved Andrew's writing from the first time I read it, and that hasn't changed. It's phenomenal. The amount of emotion that he is able to portray in one sentence in incredible. Anger, desperation, joy, terror…it's all there, at different appropriate moments. I love that he can make me feel the way that Gene does. It makes it very easy to connect to Gene's voice and his story. I also love the way the characters are developed, and I especially appreciated the world-building. It's a unique build for a unique world.

THE ENDING
I was actually shocked by the ending, and I didn't see it coming at all. Though the cliffhanger is cruel I also think that the way it was employed is pure perfection. Everything gets drawn together, and a sudden clarity descends upon the entirety of the novel. I really felt that this was the best way to pull everything together, and I like the way that a lot of the conflict is resolved, but there's still plenty to look forward to. It is, essentially, the perfect balance.

WRAPUP
So basically, I loved this. I thought it was amazing. It definitely made me think, and I truly do feel like it is different from all the other vampire books out there. There's an more real emotional aspect to it, and there's something in it that feels very alive even amidst all the death. I definitely recommend this, and though not everyone loves it, I know that a lot of people will. I myself will definitely be eagerly continuing this series.

FINE.

Another tragic bullying story that ended so sadly...

...is this story from Ireland about a 13 year young girl, Erin Gallagher, who took her own life on saturday evening after being bullied. So sad, so sad to hear;=(

Here´s the story from Belfast Telegraph:

A 13-year-old girl found dead at her home had told those who were bullying her online that she would kill herself.
Erin Gallagher, from Ballybofey, Co Donegal, was found by relatives on Saturday night. Only 24 hours earlier, she had warned her tormentors that she would take her life.
Gardai have begun an investigation into the tragic schoolgirl's death.
Relatives were too upset to talk last night, but Erin's elder sister, Shannon, left a heart-breaking message on a Facebook tribute page saying: "No one deserved what you went through."
Erin's death comes just six weeks after Ciara Pugsley (15) took her own life in Dromahair, Co Leitrim, after being bombarded with hate messages on the ask.fm social networking site.
Ciara's father, Jonathan, told the Irish Independent last night that he was "completely devastated" that another teenager had taken her own life.
Erin had also been using the ask.fm site.
In a post on Friday, the day before she died, she responded to a comment which appears to refer to her being the victim of a physical attack in which she'd had her hair pulled.
She wrote back to her anonymous tormentors: "Do u think ur funny bulling me over ask.fm yeah u prob think it was funny when a f**in put a rope round my neck cause of yous, yous are that sad!
"Leave it now u had ur f**in fun get over it! My hair wasnt all over the ground trust me plus stop going round saying a got a bald patch I had or have no bald patch!"
Erin, who lived with her mother, Laura, and elder sister, Shannon, on the Silverwood estate in Ballybofey, took her own life 24 hours later.
She was a second-year pupil at Finn Valley College in Stranorlar, a mile from her home.
Devastated principal Frank Dooley told the Irish Independent: "The pupils and the staff at the school are very upset at Erin's untimely death and we want to pass on our deepest sympathies to her family.
"We are putting procedures in place to deal with this tragedy.
"Erin was a lovely girl, a very good pupil, who was very mannerly and pleasant in the classroom.
"I would appeal to parents to caution their children about comments they may make on the internet."
In her Facebook tribute, Shannon Gallagher wrote: "I love you darling. It's so hard to say you're gone. Everyone's heartbroken. I couldn't have asked for a better sister. You were a stunning girl. No one deserved what you went through.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't prevent it. Love you with all my heart."
Niall Mulrine, an IT expert who lives in Ballybofey and who gives anti-cyber bullying classes to pupils, parents and teachers, said Erin's death had left the community stunned.
"There has understandably been a huge outpouring of grief online following Erin's death," he said.
"It's unfair that any mother should lose a child of 13 to suicide. The communities in Ballybofey and Stranorlar are devastated.
"I know this is a completely separate issue from what has happened to Erin, but the sad reality is that children aged six or seven are now on Facebook and their parents think it is okay. It isn't."
Ask.fm is a website where messages can be posted anonymously.
Sean Purcell, the CEO of the Donegal Vocational Education Committee, said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Erin's family and the pupils and staff at Finn Valley College.
"This is obviously a hugely difficult time for everyone concerned. I have been made aware of the situation and I have been in touch with the principal and the necessary steps will be put in place to support all concerned."
A garda spokesman said: "Erin's body has been removed to Letterkenny Hospital for post-mortem examination as instructed by the coroner.
After Ciara Pugsley's death, ask.fm founder Mark Terebin told RTE: "We do understand the gravity of the situation and I sympathise with Ciara Pugsley's family.
"Of course there is a problem with cyber bullying in social media.
"But, as far as we can see, we only have this situation in Ireland and the UK most of all, trust me.
"There are no complaints regarding cyber bullying from parents, children or other sources in other countries.
"It seems like children are more cruel in these countries (Ireland and the UK)."
