CATCHALL
Intangible is easily one of the best books I've ever read. I adored it a ridiculous amount and devoured every single page. It was fun, exciting, and fresh. It was completely original and had so many new ideas that pleasantly thrilled and surprised me. At every turn, something was happening or something was about to happen. I was never bored.
THE HERO
LUKE
Well, what can I say? Luke was an incredible character. I definitely really loved him. He's fiercely protective of his sister, yet not so tied down that he gets dragged along hopelessly into everything she does, but chooses to include himself when it is for both their sakes. He has a strong determination about him that serves him well and makes it clear that he is no one to be messed with. Luke is also strong and sweet, with a good head on his shoulders and an impressive set of morals and admirable tenacity.
THE HEROINE
SERA
I had trouble relating to Sera at several points in the book, but she always managed to redeem herself in the end. I didn't like some of the choices she made, but at the same time I understand and respect why she made them. Like her brother, she always tries to do the right thing, although personally I found her to be slightly more selfish. But only slightly. Sera was a fantastic character who really turned out to be a very real and human heroine with flaws and strengths, which was very nice to see.
THE LOVE INTERESTS
MARC
I have no clue if Marc will continue to be a love interest in future books, but because I cannot bring myself to skip my "love interest" section, I'm putting him here anyway. I wasn't a huge Marc fan at first, but he grew on me slowly, and I ended up really admiring and liking him for putting up a fight and for some of the decisions he made. I didn't like his choice at the end, though, and found it very selfish. Still, overall I liked Marc as a character and found him to be very compelling. We will be seeing him again, and I am looking forward to it.
THE PROTECTORS
FEY
I thought Fey was a good character. Her immense beauty kind of bothered me at first, but later I understood why this was, and I was fine with that. I loved the strong sense of love or Luke and Sera that emanated from her and also her devotion. She would stop at nothing to keep them safe, and that was so beautiful to see.
JONAS
Jonas was undoubtedly my favorite character. He has an air of mystery that slowly fades away but still isn't completely gone by the time the book comes to a close, leaving us, as readers, wondering until the next installment. He was so sweet at times and had such a touching yet heartbreaking short background story. He was complicated and yet in some ways completely understandable. I loved him.
THE PLOT
Intangible's plot is breathtaking and full of anticipation.
Which sounds totally ridiculous.
But is totally true.
Every moment something was happening. In the rare moments that didn't have anything happen, the anticipation was so intense that I was on the edge of my seat at all times. It kept me interested and involved the entire time, so much so that I rarely put it down, even for a few moments. I read it in two sittings because I simply could not get enough.
Luke's visions developed slowly and became ridiculously insane (in a good way) ridiculously fast. I had to know what happened next, and I was just as eager to know his progress in trying to change the future.
Sera was trying to live a normal life, but when she hears about Luke's vision this becomes difficult for her, too. She becomes stronger for it, though, and that is very nice to see.
The plot of this book was original and fresh, and I loved every bit of it.
THE ROMANCE
Mostly only Sera has a romance in this book, but hints of a possible romance for Luke and a possible love triangle for Sera emerge in hints. Honestly, Sera and Marc's romance veered a bit towards instalove, which was a bit disappointing, but I have definitely seen worse. And they had real chemistry, which helped convince me, too. After all, I'm young and still remember being infatuated and in young love. It kind of irritated me when Sera wouldn't stay away from Marc even when everyone was telling her too for very good reasons, but at the same time I completely understand why she didn't. As a general rule, Sera and Marc's romance moved a bit too quickly but was very, very sweet and definitely believable.
THE WRITING
Meyers has a beautiful new voice that I hope to soon see integrated further into YA. The description is beautiful and chock-full of gorgeous images, but doesn't get tiresome or irritating. Something unusual that I really loved: the story is told from five different points of view in the third person. It was definitely different, but I adored it. I loved being privy to so much information and not being left, frustrated, in the dark. It was easy to tell whose point of view we were getting at all times and wasn't at all confusing.
THE ENDING
I was completely blown away. It was perfect. It threw in something not altogether unexpected but still somehow just surprising enough. It left me with a huge cliffhanger to deal with and I am totally unsure as to how I will handle the wait. Everything fell into place perfectly, but there were enough unknowns that waiting for the next book will be, like, torture. It was clearly well-thought-out and it honestly could not have been better.
WRAPUP
As aforementioned, I will certainly be reading the next book in this series eagerly. It left me wanting so much more with an intense eagerness. I cannot wait for Luke, Sera, and everyone's story to continue. I also recommend that everyone read Intuition, which is a short story companion to Intangible, and it is FREE.
