I Have an Announcement!

I have an Announcement always sounds so ominous, doesn't it? However, there is no need to be apprehensive in this case. In fact, the Announcement I have to make is very exciting! I'm really happy to be sharing this with you guys and I hope that you all feel the same way :D

But first, some background information.

A few days ago, I was on the Internet, doing normal stuff. You know, tweeting, blogging, reviewing, that sort of thing. A day in the life of me.

Then I see this Announcement: GeekDad Exclusive: New Covers Revealed for Across the Universe Trilogy.

So I think to myself, Well, that looks interesting, and I go and click on it the way I'm sure you just did, if you haven't seen it already.

Famous last words.

Because the moment my eyes landed on the new covers, I was ready to rip my hair out with rage.

The new covers are among the ugliest I've ever seen. Not that everyone will agree with me, but there you go.

WHY Penguin WHY??!

That's pretty much what ran through my head after seeing this horrible cover change.

I mean, I bought Across the Universe after being drawn to its gorgeous cover.

These covers right here are as gorgeous as any I've ever seen! And oh, the new ones…they just make my heart hurt, and not in a good way.

So, because I am who I am, I took to Twitter to express my anger. A wonderful conversation involving me getting to vent my anger and frustration ensued, including the lovely Linda from Mission to Read, Hannah from The Girl in a Café, and one of my best blogging friends, Eileen, from ***Singing and Reading in the Rain***.

So as this heated discussion about the Across the Universe cover changes was happening, many other instances of cover changes came up.

I freely admit that I can be a shallow person and totally judge books based on their covers. That's so much of the reason why I bought Nightshade when it first came out. I mean, look at it!

The second cover was never even released, because they changed the cover theme soon afterwards. And I love these covers! They practically sparkle! They are light and beautiful.

Then they changed the cover theme to this:

Now the covers are so dark that you can hardly tell what the heck is even going on. Also, in the second cover, Calla totally looks like a stripper. If I hadn't already read Nightshade with the first cover, I would probably never have picked up this series.

Here's another one. Take the original Shatter Me cover, for instance.

So many people own this lovely hardcover, and then they realize that if they want a matching set…

They will have to buy it again. Because even though the new covers aren't necessarily ugly in this case, they are most assuredly different.

Allow me to give you one more example.

Delirium by Lauren Oliver. There is nothing wrong with this cover. It speaks volumes, and it's gorgeous.  It really represents the story told and has a story itself. It says something.

Then they go and do THIS to the covers.

Also this.

I'll be among the first to admit that I think these are pretty. But nothing special.

Ah, yes, and now to the Announcement, which you guys have been waiting so patiently for. This is why I love you.

So the wonderful Eileen and I got to thinking. What if we decided to hold a Cover Madness Chat in Twitter for everyone to discuss their opinions on cover changes and such?

We both thought it sounded brilliant.

So, it will be on July 20th from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time.

We'll be using the hashtag #CoverMadnessChat, and we'll be inviting authors and publicists to join in on the fun!

So, authors and publicists, as well as publishers, Eileen and I would love if you could stop by and discuss your opinions and thoughts on cover changes! I can promise that it will be a blast! You can send an email to me if you're interested. I will happily provide any additional information that you'd like!

If you're a blogger or just one of my awesome fellow book lovers, I'd love it if you could join in on the fun! Spreading the word by tweeting, Facebooking, sharing this post, etc. would be simply amazing and greatly appreciated, too! I seriously can't wait to hear your opinions!

And now, to RSVP. Because I am your OCD AMV and I would not be the AMV that you all know and hopefully love if I wasn't freakishly organized, I am using a cute little Google doc for you to RSVP with. :)

Eep! I have an embarrassing tendency to squeak when I get excited, and I am most definitely excited. I'm practically bouncing on the balls of my feet! There nothing like good old-fashioned excitement.

Thank you all so much for putting up with me, even when my posts are so long it veers on ridiculous! This is why I love you guys and wish I could hug all of you all the time.

Bye for now, my dear, darling roses! I hope to see you all at the Cover Madness Chat!

Lovelovelove (forever and ever!),
