Covermance! (36)

My darling daughter,

Know that I never would have left the Earth if it hadn't already been doomed. . .

The generation ship Asherah coasts through space, bound for a planet its passengers have never even seen. On the eve of their arrival, sixteen-year-old botanist Terra discovers that her orderly society has fractured. Walking home one night through the long-abandoned engine rooms, she witnesses the murder of an innocent man. Now, called on by the Children of Abel, a group of rebels intent on destroying the High Council, Terra must prove her mettle--assassinate the ship's rising captain. In order to carry out her task, Terra must betray her father, deceive her teacher, and challenge everything the Council has ever taught her was true.

The rebels think that Terra has nothing left to lose. But when she falls for Silvan Rafferty, the boy that she's meant to kill, Terra learns that "doing your duty" isn't always as easy as it seems.

Locke Jenkins has some catching up to do. After spending 260 years as a disembodied mind in a little black box, he has a perfect new body. But before he can move on with his unexpected new life, he’ll have to return the Favor he accepted from the shadowy resistance group known as the Network.

Locke must infiltrate the home of a government official by gaining the trust of his daughter, seventeen-year-old Raine, and he soon finds himself pulled deep into the world of the resistance—and into Raine’s life.

Mary E. Pearson brings the story she began in The Adoration of Jenna Fox and continued in The Fox Inheritance to a breathtaking conclusion as Locke discovers that being truly human requires much more than flesh and blood.

Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge—but at a price. Naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, the convent views Sybella as one of their most dangerous weapons.

But those assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, He must give her a reason to live. When she discovers an unexpected ally imprisoned in the dungeons, will a daughter of Death find something other than vengeance to live for?

This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, bringing readers back to fifteenth century Brittany and will keep them on the edge of their seats.

And sorry for not being in top form but I did my best at least:-) Sleep well and THANKS for your support!! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

This flu...

...sucks!

I have NO hearing in my right ear now so I hope my dear monitor guy Aksu can give me some extra volume tonight;=)

Soundcheck felt ok, I do have a very bad throat, but as you all know, during DPP tour I sang with almost no voice many times so I am sure it will be quite ok. Either way I do it for you all;=)

Thanks for your support! And you know, this is just music. Like life, sometimes we get ill and shows do get cancelled. Rihanna wouldn't ask Britney Spears to sing for her if she was ill;=)

To think a show is more important than the humans in the band is for me, so totally not in this world.

See you all from the stage soon!

And one more thing..

... I was never asked if it was ok they used Elise and Alica in the show last night. I don't think it's a good decision they made and I'm sorry for those of you who came to see the whole band but got something else. But I was very ill and this decision wasn't mine. Tonight I'll be on stage doing my best despite illness:-) See u in some hours!!

My dear ones...

I am so sorry that I couldn't be on stage yesterday in Denver:-( I got very ill the night before and first went to the ER in the morning and were there for 5 hours before they released me with some painkillers and thought it was a kidney stone. Unfortunately I got worse at 7 in the evening and started vomitting heavily and my fever rised. After talking to the hospital they said I should cancel the show and come straight back in to the ER. I was there all night and I was very dehydrated so they gave me 2 litres of fluid though an IV, they did blood tests, ultrasounds on my kidneys and finally a ct scan. These tests didn't show why I was so ill but probably the stomach pain has a connection with me having the flu or just stress. They did find something else though and for that I'm grateful. If I didn't do the scan I wouldn't know there's a big cyst in my liver and I need to go check it out ASAP at home. I do feel better today but still fever cough and a very soar throat but hopefully I can be on stage tonight, even if it means shorten the set list. Thanks for your time to read this! Enjoy this day! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Take My Books!

Do not forget to send me an email. Details are in my last post if you missed them.

EDIT: Expect an email from me sometime next week.

I would also love it if you guys could use this  to spread the word. Thanks, roses!

I'm Giving Away a Ton of my Books!

This isn't my library, but isn't it gorgeous? And I arrange my books by order of color too!
…but not just yet.

I have so many duplicates. I'm fairly certain that all the books on this list are duplicates. Some might possibly even be unread.

I want to give you fair warning and time to read the rules so you get everything correct and don't rush.

At exactly 12 PM PST today, a form will go up.

On this form you'll first put your name and email address.

Then, you'll find three sections on the form: ARCs, Paperbacks, and Hardcovers.

In each section you'll see a list of books. I am actually going to be charging for these books, since this isn't exactly a normal giveaway. For ARCs I only ask that you pay shipping, but for paperbacks and hardcovers there is a cover charge as well. I'm not charging a lot—I literally keep my books in mint condition and you can hardly tell they've been read. Some of these books will be recent releases, some of them were released years ago.

I really do hate to have to charge for shipping, but sadly shipping books is not cheap.

There's basic pricing for a single book on the form, but so that there's no confusion, I'm going to break it down here as well.

1 ARC: $3
2 ARCs: $4
1 Paperback: $5
2 Paperbacks: $7
1 Hardcover: $7
2 Hardcovers: $10
1 ARC & 1 Paperback: $6
1 Paperback & 1 Hardcover: $8
1 Hardcover & 1 ARC: $7

There. There shouldn't be any confusion now. Also, you must be able to send in payments via Paypal. I will not be shipping these books myself—one of my close friends has generously offered to do it to keep me sane—so I need that payment to get to her.

***If you really can't afford to pay this, then just let me know. I don't need to know your exact financial state—but if you're pretty well-to-do then please just pay the shipping. BE HONEST.***

As aforementioned, only two (2) books per person.

You're not done after you send me the form, though.

This is on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, there's also something else I'd like you to do.

After requesting your books and submitting the form, you'll need to send an email to sparkleslightningfeedback@yahoo.com using the same email you put on the form telling me why you want the books you've selected. It doesn't have to be long—I just want to make sure you're being genuine since I know that there are people out there who would love to have all of these books. I will still honor my first-come first-serve rule. Your response doesn't have to be as incredible and amazing as the one that came after it as long as I know that you're genuine. I need this right after you submit the form. But be sure to submit the form because you start on the email! Otherwise, someone else will submit the form before you.

Additionally—it's only two books per person, but you can check more than two boxes on the form (but don't go crazy). That is fine as long as you tell me in your email to me which of the books you most prefer. Otherwise, I won't know and I'll have to guess. Or, you could end up with nothing whereas you might have gotten something another way.

Stay tuned for noon PST, roses!

BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS BLOG TOUR and LUCID: REVIEW

Hi, roses! It's my stop on the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS BLOG TOUR, and I'm super excited! First off, let's all thank Refracted Light for hosting this wonderful tour, which you can follow here! BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS is the brill first book in the series. Even though my review isn't officially a part of this tour, you can check it out here if you haven't already!

Now without any further ado, let's get started!

BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS, BOOK 1
Nara Collins is an average sixteen-year-old, with one exception: every night she dreams the events of the following day. Due to an incident in her past, Nara avoids using her special gift to change fate…until she dreams a future she can’t ignore.
After Nara prevents a bombing at Blue Ridge High, her ability to see the future starts to fade, while people at school are suddenly being injured at an unusually high rate.
Grappling with her diminishing powers and the need to prevent another disaster, Nara meets Ethan Harris, a mysterious loner who seems to understand her better than anyone. Ethan and Nara forge an irresistible connection, but as their relationship heats up, so do her questions about his dark past.

LUCID: BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS, BOOK 2
Once Nara combines her prophetic ability with Ethan’s power to outsmart Fate at his own deadly cat-and-mouse game, she’s more determined than ever to help Ethan learn the meaning behind the raven sword tattoo that suddenly appeared on his back after their confrontation with Fate.
During her quest to uncover the tattoo’s secrets, Nara enlists the help of some new friends and discovers her own surprising connection to Ethan.
While Nara digs deeper into the mystery, her desire for answers leads her down a dangerous path full of powerful and ruthless enemies. Swept into an age-old battle, Nara quickly learns that keeping one’s enemies close can be a necessary evil, making an intangible enemy she can control far more preferable to the human enemies she can’t.

CATCHALL
Sadly, Lucid did not quite capture my heart the way Brightest Kind of Darkness did. I still really, really liked it, but it didn't have the feel as the first one did. It was wholly enjoyable. I breezed through it and when I was done I definitely was left breathless. Somehow, despite all this, it didn't really grab me the way that Brightest Kind of Darkness did. This review may seem a bit harsh, but I really did adore this book.

THE HEROINE
NARA
Nara is a wonderful heroine. She's strong and fun. And also very, very relatable. Nara becomes determined to do something useful instead of just sitting around and waiting. She wants to take action, and I love that. She can be a bit naïve, but mostly she's careful not to put herself too much at risk. I loved her in this book almost as much as I did in the first book. My main problem with her in this book is that she gets a tad whiny and pathetic and desperate and those are pretty much never attractive qualities.

THE LOVE INTEREST
ETHAN
Ethan really wasn't in this book a whole lot. I absolutely fell in love with him in the first book, but what we see of him in this book I'm not sure I like, let's be honest. The way he demands that Nara cease her research is just…no. It's not even the request itself, it's the way he says it. I hate the way he says it. It's far too controlling for my taste. And he totally overreacts at the dumbest things! By the end of this book I was forced to concede that I no longer love Ethan and he's going to have to impress me a lot in the next book to win me back.

THE EXCHANGE BOY
DRYSTAN
Drystan is the sexy, smoking-hot boy who Nara hangs out with in Ethan's absence. He has a gorgeous exotic name and a hot accent. In this book, he's the one I fell head over heels for. Sadly, it's clear early on that he isn't really a love interest. Even so, I adore him. He is so sweet. So so so so so sweet. And he's very protective of Nara, but he doesn't smother her. He's intensely loyal and seemingly would do anything to keep her safe.

THE PLOT
The plot is where this shines, as always. Patrice wove a beautiful world in Brightest Kind of Darkness, and it's only continued to develop in Lucid in the most lovely way. As the story unfolds, we learn more and more about their world and get drawn further and further into it until before you know it you're tumbling headlong into it and not looking back.

Nara wants to solve the mystery of Ethan's tattoo, and the world she's pulled into is dark. Someone wants her dead, but she doesn't know who. Someone doesn't want her finding out what Ethan's tattoo might mean and will do anything to keep her from finding out.

Even so, she doesn't let it stop her. With Drystan at her side for a lot of it, Nara sets out to find out what she needs to know. It's not an easy journey. There is some hurt involved, and some pain, and a whole lot of mystery and suspense since we don't know anything about who is trying to hurt Nara.

I really, really love the suspense. There's a ton of action, and you're never sure what is going to happen next. What is Nara going to find out next? How much closer is she getting to the one thing that will connect everything? What's happening with Ethan? Does Drystan have secrets too? The questions are endless, but in a good way. They kept me guessing and anticipatory.

I mean, I loved the plot! Just like that of the first book, it's brill. It's entertaining and more than just a shallow surface plot. It really digs in deep and settles under your skin, but in a delicious, warm kind of way.

THE ROMANCE
Ah, the romance. Well, it's difficult support a romance I've decided to stop liking one-half of (only for now, hopefully). The romance was nice, I guess, but I couldn't love it. Nara's whole attitude towards it just reeks of desperation and I hated that, and Ethan doesn't deserve Nara anymore anyway as far as I'm concerned since he apparently decided that it's cool to act like a jerk. Yes, I'm a little bitter. I'm allowed to be.

THE WRITING
I absolutely love Patrice's writing. Nara's voice is very open, honest, with no pretenses. Even at her whiniest she doesn't try to be someone she isn't and I have to appreciate that. I also greatly appreciate the gorgeous description. It's like literally being in Nara's world, if only for a little while. And just everything about the writing is artful and dressed to impress.

THE ENDING
The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but it worked for this book. It probably wouldn't work for every book, but in this one, well, it did. I thought it ended on the perfect note, actually. A lot of change was made in this book, and it just didn't need to go out with a bang to make an impact. It instead went out quietly but left its mark. A lot more is ahead, but there is still what has already been left behind.

WRAPUP
Lucid is very much a second book, but I'll definitely be picking up the third with total confidence that I'll love it. It was up and down for me but I see no reason not to continue this series when it has so much potential. Every time I fall a little deeper into Nara's world, and every time it's a little harder to get out. I really do recommend this series highly, and suggest that you pick it up! It's fun and unique and basically overall appealing.

FINE.

Cover Reveal: RELEASE

Well, hello to all my favorite roses!

This is the first cover reveal ever on Sparkles and Lightning, so I'm pretty excited about it.

This cover reveal is for RELEASE by M. R. Merrick. I've heard some seriously awesome things about this series and I will read it at some point. Seriously. There is no need to give me that look.

Release (Protector, #3)
M. R. Merrick
Release Date: December 10, 2012
After uniting the shifters and calling in reinforcements, Chase has to face his toughest challenge yet: learning to control his emotions. But as tensions rise and his powers grow, controlling his emotions becomes the least of his problems.

Terrorized by a multi-shifter who is hell-bent on turning him, Chase questions just how far he’s willing to go to stop his father. Meanwhile, Tiki’s virtuous nature has placed him in the middle of Vincent’s past, leaving Chase to oppose a senate of vampires and defend a demon he hates.

Trying to balance his friends, his enemies, and his inner demons, Chase is left searching for answers about the Mark, his destiny, and where he can find the next soul piece. Stopping Riley is his top priority, but as more obstacles arise, he finds himself doubting all the decisions he’s made - especially regarding Rayna.
One thing is for certain: Chase has finally realized that he doesn’t know anything. The light doesn’t always quell the darkness, the monsters don’t always stay in the shadows, and the past doesn’t always stay in the past - sometimes, the demons inside are the hardest to fight.

Isn't it beautiful? I think it's absolutely gorgeous. I'd really love to hear your thoughts on it! Leave me a comment, tweet me, whatever. As long as you let me know!

Ever: REVIEW

Ever (Ever, #1)
Jessa Russo
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Release Date: October 1, 2012
Source: Publisher
Goodreads | Purchase
Seventeen-year-old Ever’s love life has been on hold for the past two years. She’s secretly in love with her best friend Frankie, and he’s completely oblivious.
Of course, it doesn't help that he’s dead, and waking up to his ghost every day has made moving on nearly impossible.
Frustrated and desperate for something real, Ever finds herself falling for her hot new neighbor Toby. His relaxed confidence is irresistible, and not just Ever knows it. But falling for Toby comes with a price that throws Ever’s life into a whirlwind of chaos and drama. More than hearts are on the line, and more than Ever will suffer.
Some girls lose their hearts to love.
Some girls lose their minds.
Ever Van Ruysdael could lose her soul.

CATCHALL
Ever took me by surprise. When I started it, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I didn't know at all what it was about, but once I dove into it I quickly found myself being pulled into its world. I was impressed by the originality of the story, and the characters were deep and people that I had no problem connecting with. It was an incredibly fun and yet emotional read, and I found myself laughing and crying at various points in the novel. I connected to it on a deep level and loved it.

THE HEROINE
EVER
Ever was a seriously awesome heroine. Though she pines after Toby during their breakup, she doesn't turn pathetic about it. She stays strong throughout the whole thing. I love that. She's not some crumbly girl who needs a boyfriend to make her happy. She's a strong girl in her own right and I think that it would be impossible not to admire that. We all make mistakes, but for the most part Ever makes good choices and she always tries to follow her heart and do the right thing.

THE LOVE INTERESTS
FRANKIE
I adore Frankie. He's very, very sweet, and protective without being overbearing. He's caring, and sexy in that way that quiet guys are, understated but potent. Everything about him seems to be goodness, even though it's implied that he's hiding a few secrets under that soft exterior. But for the most part, he is very open and honest with Ever, always straightforward, but he doesn't bother when she doesn't want to listen. I like that he feels like he can tell her anything. It's easy to see that, even through Ever's eyes.
TOBY
Toby is Frankie's opposite in nearly every respect, except is love for Ever, and possibly a few other things that I could have overlooked. Toby is dark. All about black and leather. But if you break down his exterior and look past that, he's also a very sweet and protective guy, but he expresses it and himself in a different way than Frankie does. At the same time, despite seeming like a stereotype trap, he's not a walking cliché. I can't really tell you how he isn't—only that he isn't. He's a deeply developed character.

THE BEST FRIEND
JESSIE
I wasn't sure how I felt about Jessie for a long time, but I ended up liking her. She's fiercely loyal to Ever and she'll do anything for her. She isn't the type to flake and although she's portrayed as a bit flighty with guys, she is very different with her best friend. Her heart is in the right place and she always knows where she stands: with Ever. No matter what.

THE PLOT
From the very first sentence, Ever drew me into her world. I was immediately dazzled. And that feeling of novelty didn't ever seem to go away. It was like the brilliance of the first time, all the time. And that mae reading this book a pleasure all around.

And I loved the whole originality of it. I've really never read anything like it, which is so hard for me to say regarding paranormal romance these days because so many of them feel the same. Not this one. In a world and a genre where boring has taken over, Ever managed to not only be something special but to capture my heart.

It didnt feel contrived or fake at all. Ever's story is a very real one. The boy she loves, Frankie, has been dead for two years. But he isn't gone. He's a ghost. And he lives in her house, keeping her company. Then, on the two year anniversary of his death, a boy and his father move into Frankie's old house. That would be Toby. And after that, nothing is going to be the same for Ever.

There was action, but there was mostly a lot of emotion. Everything Ever did, and everything that happened to her was based at some level in deep emotion. It's not a shallow book by any means. It's a book that has to be invested in.

Another thing I love is that this book is set in Southern California. I'm sure I've read other books set here, but not too many or I'd remember them. And it was really awesome to recognize the places they were talking about and picture everything.

Another awesome thing? Ever's mom is named Annabelle.

But I digress.

THE ROMANCE
I love the romance. It's clearly a central part of this book, but it doesn't take over everything. It's important but it supplements the story rather than polarizing it. I really, really like that aspect of it. And although I have to say I'm leaning towards Frankie, I like that in this love triangle I'm still undecided because everything is so balanced! Ever has chemistry with both of these boys, and they both care about her in their ways. So I'm looking forward to see what the future will bring here.

THE WRITING
I love Jessa's writing. I really, really do. Ever has a very unique voice. She's very much a teenager, and she's written perfectly in such a way that she doesn't come off as annoying or whiney. She's very much an independent girl and her voice reflects that. Additionally, Jessa's writing allows full characterization of secondary characters even through a first person POV, which isn't always easy to do. Besides which, her writing is just awesome in general. I love the description, and the dialogue was very fun, from the banter-y to the serious.

THE ENDING
The ending…wow. Very sweet. Touching. Well, not the very ending. But there is a scene near the end that is very, very touching. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why. But it really is. It brought a smile to my face. Probably because it felt so right. But the very ending, including the last line…wow. It's a serious cliffhanger. I couldn't help but wish there was more right away! It was just unexpected enough but seemed plausible and not ridiculous. It was perfect.

WRAPUP
I absolutely loved Ever. It was an incredibly pleasant surprise and I will definitely be picking up the sequel! In fact, I will be desperately awaiting the sequel because I really, really, really want to know what is going to happen next. It was that good, people. Moreover, I completely and totally recommend this book. To be honest, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. No book is. But if you love your fantasy and romance, and you're looking for a unique paranormal romance, I'd definitely recommend checking this one one!

FINE.

Waiting on Wednesday (26)

Waiting on Wednesdays is a public weekly meme hosted by the lovely Jill over at Breaking the Spine. Thanks, Jill!

That basically means we get an ENTIRE day full of gushing over gorgeous book covers and all the reads that we're highly anticipating.

This week I am very, very excited about my pick.

Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers, #2)
Michelle Rowen
MY KISS CAN KILL.

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul...or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't...I hurt myself.

Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They're both part of a team of angels and demons that's joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I'll be able to help Bishop-or if I'm just another part of the darkness he's sworn to destroy....

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

Well, darlings, there are so many reasons I am anticipating this one.

First off, look at the cover. It's beautiful. Also, it's pink, which is a win no matter how you look at it. I adore it. The scarf is a bit odd, but it works. And the pose a bit too symmetrical. But still, I love it.

Dark Kiss was pure amazingness and I adored it, so of course I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel.

The one sounds SO good. I love how it keeps the tagline from the first book at the bottom, too. A nice touch.

I can't wait to see what happens in this book. I can't wait to see Bishop and Kraven again. And it seems like a new guy thrown into the mix probably can't hurt.

Seriously, after that ending…well. I can't wait to see more of what's coming, and hopefully the darkness and rebellion is explored more in this one!
